Vickie moved to Dallas in September 1999 and met James Chippendale (”Chip”) on his birthday on May 24, 2000, just a couple of months after his diagnosis with leukemia. She had heard about Chip’s battle through a very close mutual friend of theirs, and after meeting Chip, she was so inspired by his upbeat and positive attitude, and prayed for him daily through his battle with cancer and his recovery. She is so proud of him and his triumph in not only fighting and beating this horrible disease, but using that very difficult experience in such an incredibly positive manner today, raising awareness and funds to help others in their fight against cancer.
Though not a trekker, Vickie has been intrigued by Machu Picchu and has wanted to visit for many years. Through her support for one of the trekkers on the Everest Rocks trip, she receives regular emails from LHSF, and when she received the email announcing the trip to Peru and the trek to Machu Picchu, she instantly knew this was her chance - not only to get to visit this magical place, but to get to do it for such a great cause! She is looking very forward to the challenge and the experience! Having lost both of her maternal grandparents to cancer also makes this mission even more meaningful.
Vickie is a Certified Financial Planner and has been in the investment industry for almost twenty years, spending most of the first ten years working for the investment banking firm wholly owned by the Sam Walton family, of Wal-Mart fame. She now works for BOSC, Inc., the investment services affiliate of Bank of Texas, for almost ten years, helping high net worth individuals and institutions invest their funds.
