I believe that almost everyone has someone in their life that has been touched by cancer. I know I did: my brother-in-law passed away 5 years ago from cancer; I had a staff member who passed away after a battle with breast cancer and then it coming back into her spine. I have good friends who watched helplessly as their daughter fought this terrible disease for over 6 years then losing the fight last year.
It seems that one always knows of someone else, but you never think of yourself as hearing those words from the doctor – “the test results have come back positive, so I will give you one day to get things in order and be here at the hospital the following morning!!!” That happened to me August 2006. I was diagnosed with leukemia and I was one of the very fortunate ones – I survived! So my participation and donation on this trek “Peru Rocks” has provided for me a way of giving back for which I am very grateful.
When a good friend told me about the Love Hope Strength Foundation, I was very impressed with Mike Peters and James Chippendale and how these two men have taken their battle with cancer and turned it into helping others. A great inspiration! Music is one of the great motivators for me – when I am down – I just need to put on some music and pretty soon my energy levels are rising higher and higher. The Love Hope Strength Foundation is a great combination of music and helping others.
I have three daughters, all of whom are married. I also am very fortunate to have two granddaughters and one grandson. I have worked at a Public Library for the past 24 years. It is a job I love – helping others and always learning new things. My interests range from kayaking, camping, curling, golfing, NIA and reading.
