Julie has lived in Houston since 1996 where she worked as a therapist for 10+ years. She earned her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University and has helped to rehabilitate many individuals recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, and various other orthopedic conditions. She is currently employed as a medical equipment consultant for GKL Health Services and has worked for the past 4 year as a medical equipment specialist installing medical equipment in new and existing facilities primarily in the Houston area. Julie enjoys learning about new medical technologies and sharing this knowledge with clients to help improve their current health care facilities and enhance medical services to the patients they serve.

Julie has championed and chaired many volunteer committees including hospital/community blood drives, employee assistance programs, United Way Campaigns and flood relief for Tropical Storm Allison in Houston.

When she heard about the trip from her friend and fellow trekker Vickie, she thought it was a “great match” for her since LHS will use the funds raised to purchase cancer screening and treatment equipment. Julie states, “I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be part of a team that would provide equipment to people who so desperately need it! Making a difference…that is what I truly enjoy about the job that I do and that is what is so very exciting about this trek in Peru.”

Julie is the proud mother of Loren, age 6. By conquering this journey, Julie hopes to inspire her daughter, and encourage others to enjoy life while making a difference along the way.

Julie will be making this climb in memory of family and friends who have lost their hard fought battle against cancer – her grandfather, Norris Curtis, his brother Bill and friends Jana and Nickie - and in honor of the many blessed and courageous cancer survivors including friends Stacy, Erika, and Carlene whose strength and determination are a true inspiration. Julie will be carrying these names as well as Remedios Amores of Spain who is currently having a very difficult time recovering from her own recent cancer battle and wishes her all the best!
