I was born and raised in South Texas, on the US-Mexico border. Some of my favorite childhood memories include being free to explore the outdoors, hiking along the Rio Grande river and observing the vast night skies. My degree is in Computer Science and I continue to enjoy a career in Information Technology, primarily as a developer and system administrator. I love music and I really appreciate the way the Love Hope Strength Foundation combines adventure with music to raise awareness and money in the fight against cancer. I live in Austin with my sweet wife and wonderful daughter.
It’s true that everyone is affected by cancer. Too many in my immediate and extended family have had cancer. Some have beat it, some have not. I am dedicating this trek and this fundraising effort to my father, Cesar Salinas, who endured several years of chemotherapy, surgeries, hospitals and recurrences before he died from cancer in 1994. He believed in helping people, as the LHS Foundation is helping people.
This will be my first time to travel into South America. I am looking forward to the challenge of the trek, trying Peruvian food and drink, listening to Andean music, as well as meeting all the other trekkers, musicians and organizers. I think my wife was right when she said about this trip, “It’s going to rock your world.”
